What does it involve to participate in ComeBACK?
What does it involve?
This 12 month study involves the following measurements:
• Questionnaires (about your general health) completed before study interventions and then at 3, 6 and 12 months.
• Physical activity levels measured using a StepWatch for 7 days at the start of the study, and at 6 and 12 months.
You will randomly be allocated to receive one of three interventions. As this is a research study you will not be able to choose which group you will be allocated to.
Group 1
The coaching to ComeBACK program involves:
• A single one-hour assessment of mobility and physical activities undertaken either at home or via telephone or video conference by a physiotherapist
• A tailored plan to improve physical activity
• 6 months of phone-based coaching to support the implementation of the physical activity plan
• Access to paper-based and online resources
• Offered technologies to use where appropriate e.g. the Fitbit or a simple pedometer to keep track of daily activity
Group 2
The texting to ComeBACK program involves:
• A single phone session from a physiotherapist with advice to increase physical activity
• A tailored plan to improve physical activity
• 6 months of text message support
• Access to paper-based and online resources
Group 3
The texting to ComeBACK later group involves:
This group will receive no intervention for the first 6 months but continue usual activity and health service access independent of the study. After the 6 month period this group will receive the Texting to ComeBACK program as outlined above.
